GREAT NONPROFIT OF THE MOMENT!

Bullying is a hot topic these days for good
reason – we need to protect our kids. I’m on the
Board of Advisors of a fantastic nonprofit
organization called, Hey U.G.L.Y., Inc. - Unique
Gifted Lovable You,
dedicated to helping youth who are bullied AND
the bullies because both suffer from low
self-esteem. We help them discover their "inner
cool" so they can be who they are instead
of who they think they need to be to fit
in.
The
dynamic Co-Founder, President and my friend,
Betty Hoeffner, asked me to let our subscribers
know about their campaign to help kids who are
being bullied. “We had a mom call us to help her
son who was repeatedly kicked in the face by a
bully,” explained Betty, “I found out from a
police officer friend that unless there is video
there's not much the mom could do but file a
complaint. So, on behalf of this mom and her
son, we have started
http://BullyingBystandersUnite.org/. It's a
place that teaches bystanders to bullying what
to do to help kids who are being bullied. We
want everyone to go there and take the pledge to
help kids. The pledge is free and only takes a
minute.” So, dear subscribers, hug your teen
today and be thankful when you are surrounded by
love and hope this season. Check out their
website,
HeyUGLY.org for fantastic programs, services
and products to help teens everywhere. |

'Twas the night of Thanksgiving,
but I just couldn't sleep...
I tried counting backwards,
I tried counting sheep.
The leftovers beckoned...the dark meat and
white,
but I fought the temptation with all of my
might.
Tossing and turning with anticipation,
the thought of a snack became infatuation.
So, I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door
and gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore.
I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes,
stuffing with gravy, green beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling so plump and so round,
till all of a sudden, I rose off the ground.
I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the
sky
with a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie
But, I managed to yell as I soared past the
trees...
Happy eating to all -- pass the cranberries,
please. |

There
are three blonde guys stranded on an island.
Suddenly a fairy appears and offers to grant
each one of them a wish.
The first blonde asks to be intelligent.
Instantly, he is turned into a brown haired man
and swims off the island.
The next one asks to be even more intelligent
than the previous one, so instantly he is turned
into a black haired man. The black haired man
builds a boat and sails off the island.
The third blonde asks to become even more
intelligent than the previous two. The fairy
turns him into a woman, and she walks across the
bridge. |

A
man absolutely hated his wife's cat and decided
to get rid of him one day by driving him 20
blocks from his home and leaving him at the
park.
As he was getting home, the cat was walking up
the driveway.
The next day he decided to drive the cat 40
blocks away. He put the beast out and headed
home.
Driving back up his driveway, there was the cat!
He kept taking the cat further and further and
the cat would always beat him home. At last he
decided to drive a few miles away, turn right,
then left, past the bridge, then right again and
another right until he reached what he thought
was a safe distance from his home and left the
cat there.
Hours later the man calls home to his wife:
"Jen, is the cat there?"
"Yes", the wife answers, "Why do you
ask?"
Frustrated, the man answered, "Put that
critter on the phone. I'm lost and need
directions!!!" |

WHAT’S YOUR MOMENT OF JOY?
|
When
was the last time you took a bath? I was
giving a coaching session to a hard-working
woman and dedicated employee yesterday at her
company site. She’s the ultimate
caretaker…giving to everyone all the time and
took pride in all that she had done for the
business, working odd hours, nights, weekends,
juggling 4 kids and a husband, social calendar,
giving back to the community and more. We talked
about being overwhelmed and stressed at times
and when I asked her when was the last time she
took time for herself and had some nurturing
self-care, she suddenly sat still in the chair,
puzzled and silent. I wasn’t asking for an hour
of time, just a moment of Joy here and there so
she could rejuvenate, distress and recharge her
batteries. Finally she realized how much she
used to enjoy baths for the quiet and
relaxation. I asked when was the last time she
had one and she sheepishly said FIVE YEARS AGO!
So guess what her “coaching homework” was? Yup,
a luxurious bubblebath, complete with soft
music, candles and a locked door. She can’t wait
for her moments of joy and I can’t wait to get
the wonderful update and see her smile with
delight. What about YOU? Whether it’s a soothing
bath, jog around the block, curled up with a
good book, massage, walk in the park, comedy
movie, laughing with a friend…take a moment of
joy…something that doesn’t involve working or
caretaking, but some positive, relaxing YOU
time! We all need self-care….take your moment of
joy today! And let me know! |

AVOIDING TELEMARKETERS
OF THE MOMENT
|
1. If MCI calls trying to get you to sign up
with their Family and Friends plan, reply, in as
sinister a voice as you can muster, "I don't
have any friends . . . would you be my friend?"
2. Tell them you work for the same company they
work for.
Example: Telemarketer: "This is Bill from
Watertronics."
You: "Watertronics!! Hey I work for them too.
Where are you calling from?"
Telemarketer: "Uh, Dallas, Texas." You: "Great,
they have a group there too? How's business/the
weather? Too bad the company has a policy
against selling to employees! Oh well, see ya."
3. Tell the Telemarketer you are busy and if
they will give you their phone number you will
call them back. If they say they are not allowed
to give out their number, then ask them for
their home number and tell them you will call
them at home (this is usually the most effective
method of getting rid of Telemarketers). If the
person says, "Well, I don't really want to get a
call at home," say, "Yeah! Now you know how I
feel." (smiling, of course...) |
